Evaluator EV1 Cycle monitor

HTM01-05 states that the User must perform a manual Automatic Control Test on your sterilizer every day…

4.16 If the sterilizer has an automatic printer, the printout should be retained or copied to a permanent record. If the sterilizer does not have a printer, the user will have to manually record… (HTM01-05)

15.3 This test (Automatic Control Test) is designed to show that the operating cycle functions correctly as shown by the values of the cycle variables indicated and/or recorded by the instruments fitted to the decontamination equipment. (HTM01-05)

Fitting an Evaluator EV1 cycle monitor removes the daily requirement of an Automatic Control Test.

The EV1 monitors each and every cycle initiated and provides a Pass/Fail report. Any cycle that does not perform to the pre-determined pass criteria will FAIL (Click reports for larger image).
The system shares only the power source with the sterilizer so any loss of power will result in the EV1 diverting to its own battery backup and a fail report initiated if a short cycle is then processed (Click reports for larger image).

The EV1 monitors each and every cycle initiated and provides a Pass/Fail result. Any cycle that does not perform to the pre-determined pass criteria will FAIL.

The system shares only the power source with the sterilizer so any loss of power will result in the EV1 diverting to its own battery backup and a fail report initiated if a short cycle is then processed.

Any manual intervention such as prematurely aborting a cycle would also be detected and a FAIL report produced.

The EV1 will fail a cycle in the eventuality of:

  • Over temperature during holding time
  • Below temperature during holding time
  • Short cycle
  • Power failure
  • Sterilization temperature not reached
EV1Lite, a windows based software package, provides report header personalisation along with modification of the Pass/Fail criteria...

Although installed inside the sterilizer, the Evaluator EV1 can be programmed without having to remove the cover.

Programmable features include:

  • Time and date
  • Calibration offsets
  • Process criteria
  • Machine details
  • Company details
  • Location information

The Evaluator EV1 has been designed with bespoke installation in mind so installation is similar whichever sterilizer is being upgraded...

The EV1 can be fitted to most sterilizer makes and models, for example:

  • Little Sister 1
  • Little Sister 2
  • Little Sister 3
  • SES2000
  • Instaclave 230
  • Instaclave 2030
  • Merlin
  • Kavoclave
  • Matron
The Evaluator EV1 is extremely adaptable and is also being used to monitor ultrasonic baths, instrument washers and bedpan washers in an NHS environment.

Sample Installation for a Little Sister 3 Sterilizer...

The Evaluator EV1 has five points of installation:

  • PCB Mounting
  • Mains Cable
  • Trigger Cable
  • Temperature Probe
  • Printer
The EV1 PCB is housed in a white enclosure that requires mounting inside the sterilizer. In the case of a Little Sister 3 an ideal place is on the reservoir support as shown in the image opposite.

The EV1 Mains is standard three core Live/Neutral/Earth. The Live and Neutral should be connected to the sterilizer mains supply on the switch side so that when the machine is on, so is the EV1. The Earth should be connected to the sterilizers own earth connection.

The Trigger tells the EV1 when a cycle has started. Common trigger points are the fill solenoid or heater element, however any point that is activated when the User has initiated a cycle should be sufficient. The trigger allows both a 24v or 240v connection. With a Little Sister 3 the 24v Trigger is attached to the yellow wire on the fill solenoid using either a T Tap or Piggyback crimp.
